Bookings

Group visits must be booked in advance. The Museum is normally open to the public Monday to Friday from 12:30-16:30, but with prior notice educational visits can be arranged from 10:30.

Charges

Admission and all educational activities are free of charge, but donations are welcome to help contribute to our costs. Our suggested donation for educational groups is £1 per student. Cheques should be made payable to the 'University of Cambridge'. Unfortunately change cannot be given for cash donations. A receipt can be provided upon request.

In order to make an on-line donation, please click here [https://www.alumni.cam.ac.uk/giving/direct.php?table=departmentprojects&id=211] to go to the Cambridge University Fundraising Campaign website.

Group Size

The number of students that can be accommodated in a single visit will depend on the nature of the activity. This may vary between 20-30 students.

Supervision

We require a staffing ratio of at least 1 adult per 10 students.

Toilets and Cloakroom

The Museum has only one toilet and group leaders are advised to plan accordingly. Facilities for storing coats and bags are also limited as there is no lockable storage. Unfortunately, the Museum does not have a space in which groups can consume food or drink.

Access Information

Groups are asked to enter the museum through our step-free group entrance. This can be accessed through the archway on Downing Street (turning left at the Zoology Museum and then left again). Please ring the doorbell to be admitted. Click here to view a map.

Combined visits to Cambridge University Museums

Cambridge University has several museums, collections and academic departments that offer schools programmes. If you would like to bring a large group why not co-ordinate your visit to the Whipple Museum with visits to other Cambridge University Museums and Collections? Details of educational programmes across the University can be found here [http://www.cam.ac.uk/museums-and-collections/visit-us/schools].
